Strong Cold Front to Hit Hanoi, Northern Provinces This Week

Time to break out your winter wardrobe.

Tuoi Tre reports that the strongest cold front of this winter so far is now moving through northern and north-central Vietnam.

Over the next couple of days, low temperatures in Hanoi and neighboring provinces will fall to 11°C, while mountainous parts of the northwest and northeast could see the mercury drop to 5°C.

Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai provinces are expected to bear the brunt of the cold weather, while Hanoians should expect some rain to accompany the plummeting temperatures.

This cold front will also kick up strong winds as it passes by, particularly off the coast, while local officials inland have been tasked with monitoring the livelihood of both people and livestock amid the winter weather.

Dan Tri adds that up to seven cold fronts are expected to impact northern Vietnam through the end of December.

In recent days, the region has also been experiencing dangerous air pollution, with the Vietnam Environment Administration recommending over the weekend that residents avoid outdoor activities in order to protect their health.
