According to the latest ranking by education network Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Hanoi’s University of Science and Technology ranks in the top 400 globally for certain subjects.
QS announced their latest university rankings, which included 1,222 universities from 153 countries, on February 27. According to Dan Tri, this is the first time the Hanoi institution has appeared on the list for individual subjects.
Three of their courses made it into the rankings, with both Electrical Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering featuring in the top 500, while Computer Science appeared in the top 550.
The criteria for assessing universities include their academic reputation and the impact of scholarly publications. Institutions are also ranked individually, with the Hanoi University of Science and Technology placing in the 261-270 group in QS’s Asia University Ranking 2018-2019.
The National University of Singapore came first, while the highest-ranked Vietnamese institutions are Hanoi’s Vietnam National University and Ho Chi Minh’s National University, which placed at number 124 and 144, respectively.
Last year, real estate conglomerate Vingroup announced plans to open a non-profit, private university in Hanoi, with enrollment beginning in 2020.
According to a press release reported on by VietnamNet, the university will focus on three core areas: business, technology, and health sciences. The group has formed partnerships with 20 of the world’s best universities, including Ivy League schools such as Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. It will also place importance on appearing alongside international leaders in rankings such as QS and Times Higher Education.
