BackArts & Culture » [Video] Laidback, Retro-Style Clip Saunters by Hanoi’s Landmarks and Side Streets

At just over a minute long, this soothing video pays tribute to the quotidian pleasures of exploring Hanoi’s landmarks, alleyways and side streets.

Created by Vimeo user hyeahn_, Vietnam in My Mind is a love note to the capital. In the opening frame, the word ‘Hanoi’ appears in a retro font as traffic moves in slow-motion across Hoa Ma Street. Shortly afterwards, the camera slips into old-school film reel clips of the Opera House and Hoan Kiem Lake before walking us through a fruit and vegetable market.

As gentle string music plays in the background, we’re shown a rain-drenched road crossing, railway tracks and side alleys. In one scene, cloth from a barber stall flaps in the wind as a man dressed in red strolls down the alley. In the final scene, a young boy appears almost to walk on water as he fishes in a small city lake.
